How EFT Helps You Unstick What Your Body Has Been Holding Onto

You know that weird moment when you’re doing just fine — and then suddenly you’re crying over a commercial, or freezing up mid-conversation, or your chest feels like a 90s dial-up modem? Yeah. Welcome to the emotional storage unit that is your body.

Turns out, we don’t just feel emotions — we store them. In our necks. Our jaws. Our stomachs. Our breath. Our nervous systems. And when we try to “talk it out” without letting our bodies release what they’ve been holding? It’s like trying to clear a clogged drain by yelling at it.

That’s where EFT Tapping comes in.

💡 Wait — What Even Is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) — also lovingly called “tapping” — is a healing tool that combines acupressure points with psychological reframing. It’s a little like acupuncture had a baby with trauma therapy... and the baby was a surprisingly helpful emotional support tool.

You lightly tap on specific points on your face and body (called meridian points), while speaking out loud the thoughts, fears, or feelings that are stuck.

And yeah, it looks a little weird. But it works like magic. Real, nervous-system-based magic.

Why It Works (And Why It’s Not Woo-Woo)

Here’s the science:

Tapping on acupressure points sends calming signals to the amygdala — the part of your brain responsible for fear, trauma, and the fight-flight-freeze response. Meanwhile, the act of naming your feelings (instead of avoiding them) tells your brain:

“Hey. It’s safe now. We can feel this.”

This combination reduces cortisol (stress hormone), helps regulate the nervous system, and clears old patterns that might’ve been stored for years.

You’re not just saying positive affirmations and hoping for the best — you’re reprogramming your body’s fear response in real time.

What Can Tapping Help With?

Oh, babe. So many things.

  • Anxiety (yes, even that “it’s 3am and I’m thinking about that thing from 2015” kind)

  • Breakups and heartbreak

  • Childhood trauma

  • Chronic pain

  • Body image issues

  • Emotional eating

  • Feeling stuck, frozen, or numb

  • Imposter syndrome

  • That random tightness in your throat that won’t go away when you try to speak your truth

Basically, if you’ve ever thought, “I know this isn’t rational, but I still feel it,” — tap on it.

Okay But… What Does Tapping Release?

  • That fight you didn’t cry after

  • That memory you don’t talk about

  • That belief you inherited from your mother’s silence

  • That moment you felt rejected and swore you’d never be vulnerable again

EFT doesn’t erase your story.

It just helps your body stop reliving it on a loop.

It releases shame from your tissues. It softens the grip of fear in your jawline. It gives you back your breath.
